FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is Doydum?
Doydum is an iPhone app for keeping track of what you eat, with a pixel-art companion called Doy who lives on a little farm. You log meals with a photo, a barcode or a quick search, and follow your water, steps and weight. Your daily plan comes from a well-known formula. The name means “I’m full” in Turkish, and the app speaks English and Turkish.
Learn moreWho is Doy?
Doy is your companion in the app: a small pixel character who lives in a house on a farm. He reacts to the food you log by name, fills up with water as you drink (his body is your water meter) and keeps you company through the day. Doy never shames, never comments on bodies and never scolds you for a missed day.
Learn moreHow does the photo scan work?
Take a photo of your plate with Doydum’s own camera, crop it and add a hint if you like, such as “half portion” or “cooked in butter”. The AI lists each item with grams, calories, protein, carbs and fat, and says how confident it is. You check and edit every item before saving. While you wait, Doy reads the plate in a little pixel animation. You can scan up to 30 times a day.
Learn moreHow accurate are the photo estimates?
They are estimates, not exact measurements. A photo can’t show hidden oil, the sugar in a sauce or how deep a bowl is, so portions are the hardest part. That’s why every item comes with a confidence level and stays editable: fix the grams or swap an item before you save. A short hint, a clear shot of the whole plate and good light all help.
Learn moreCan I scan barcodes, and what does Ask AI do?
Yes. Scan a packaged food’s barcode and Doydum looks it up in Open Food Facts, an open food database, with values per 100 g. If the barcode is unknown, tap Ask AI and photograph the pack. The AI reads the nutrition table if it can see one; otherwise it searches the web by name and brand, and failing that it gives a labelled estimate. It always tells you which it did.
Learn moreDoes Doydum know Turkish and international foods?
Yes. Besides photo and barcode scans, you can search a curated list of 168 everyday foods, Turkish and international: lentil soup, lahmacun, döner, mantı and simit sit next to boiled eggs, bananas and grilled chicken breast. Your recent foods, favourites and your own foods are there too, and a quantity dial lets you log grams or servings.
Learn moreHow is my daily calorie target calculated?
Doydum estimates your resting energy with the Mifflin–St Jeor equation from your age, sex, height and weight, then multiplies it by an activity factor from 1.2 to 1.9. To lose or gain, it subtracts or adds 275, 550 or 825 kcal a day for a weekly pace of 0.25, 0.5 or 0.75 kg. It never goes below 1,200 kcal (female formula) or 1,500 kcal (male formula). It’s an estimate, not a prescription.
Learn moreHow does Doydum set my macros?
Your calories are split between protein, carbs and fat by goal: 30/40/30 percent to lose weight, 25/45/30 to keep it and 25/50/25 to gain. Grams follow from 4 kcal per gram of protein or carbs and 9 kcal per gram of fat. Every meal you log shows its protein, carbs and fat, so you can see how the day adds up.
Learn moreHow much water does Doydum suggest?
Your daily water target is 33 ml per kilogram of body weight, rounded to the nearest 50 ml, and never less than 1.5 L. Log 250, 500 or 750 ml with one tap, or any amount you like, and undo a slip. Doy is the water meter: he fills up as you drink. Water reminders are optional and scheduled on your phone.
Learn moreHow does Doydum count steps? Does it use Apple Health?
Doydum reads steps from your iPhone’s own motion sensor, and only after you allow it on the Progress screen. It reads the last seven days when you open the app. It doesn’t connect to Apple Health and doesn’t sync in the background. Your step target can be anything from 2,000 to 30,000; the starting value comes from your activity level.
Learn moreHow does weight tracking work?
Add a weigh-in in kg or lb whenever you like, and back-date it up to a year if you forgot. Doydum looks at the trend rather than any single day, because one day’s number can jump around. Milestones mark the way toward your goal, and when you reach it, your plan switches to maintenance. The weight chart shows 7, 30 or 90 days.
Learn moreWhat do the progress charts show?
The Progress tab has charts for calories, water, steps and weight over 7, 30 or 90 days. Days you didn’t log show as unlogged, never as zero, so a gap is just a gap. Tap a chart to open its detail page with the values for each day, and tap Ask Doy if you’d like Doy to read it with you.
Learn moreWhat are Doy’s insights?
On any progress chart, tap Ask Doy and he reads it the way an experienced registered dietitian reads a client’s log: a headline, two or three observations with the dates they come from, one to three small actions and three follow-up questions. Doy only does this when you ask. The note is written by AI, so it can be wrong, and it isn’t medical advice.
Learn moreCan I chat with Doy?
Yes. From any of Doy’s notes you can keep talking: ask what a pattern means or what to try next, and add meal photos if that helps; portions come back as ranges rather than false precision. Doy never shames, never comments on bodies and never suggests eating below your plan’s minimum, fasting or earning food with exercise. He’s an AI, and it isn’t medical advice.
Learn moreWhat is Doy’s farm, and what makes it grow?
Every meal you log plants a row in today’s bed in front of Doy’s house, and the rows ripen over a few hours. Every 1,000 steps lays a stone on the path, and reaching your step target opens the gate. A golden day, with meals, water and steps all done, plants a sunflower by the fence. Finished weeks become crates by the barn, and animals move in as you keep going.
Learn moreWhat happens if I miss a day?
Your streak forgives. Any day with at least one meal counts. Every seven logged days fills a rain barrel (you can keep two), and a full barrel covers a day without a meal by itself, so the streak holds. Going away? Set an away stretch of up to 14 days and your streak waits for you. No red numbers, no guilt.
Learn moreWhat reminders does Doydum send?
Only the ones you turn on: water reminders, a reminder for each meal you plan (suggested at 08:30, 13:00 and 19:00, all off until you switch them on) and an optional evening day summary. They’re scheduled on your iPhone itself, not sent from a server, and you can change or stop them anytime in Settings, under Reminders and motion.
Learn moreIs there a home-screen widget?
Yes, on iPhone. The Doydum widget shows Doy filled with today’s water, and its glass button adds 250 ml without opening the app; the glass is saved the next time you open Doydum. To add it, touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen, open the menu at the top left, tap Add Widget and pick Doydum.
Learn moreWhich languages does Doydum speak?
English and Turkish. You can switch at any time in Settings, under Appearance and language. Everything follows, including Doy’s lines, and AI answers (scan results, Doy’s insights and chats) come back in the language the app is set to. The calculators and guides on this website are in both languages too.
Learn moreIs my data private?
Yes. Doydum has no ads and no tracking, and your data is never sold. Your entries are stored to run the app for you, and the AI provider only sees what a feature you asked for needs. From Settings you can export a copy of everything as a JSON file, or delete your account and all its data, at any time.
Learn moreWhere do my meal photos go?
When you scan, a compressed copy of the photo goes to our backend and to Google’s Gemini model (or, if Gemini can’t answer, to Anthropic’s Claude), only to estimate that meal. If you correct a meal in words later, your note goes the same way with the photo, and the note isn’t kept. If you save the meal, the photo stays with it so your meal gallery can show it; if you cancel or the scan fails, it’s deleted. Deleting a meal deletes its photo, and deleting your account erases all photos first.
Learn moreIs Doydum for people under 18?
No. Doydum is for adults, 18 and over. Growing bodies have different needs, and calorie targets for children and teenagers belong with a doctor or registered dietitian. The same goes for adults who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or who have an eating disorder or a medical condition: talk to a professional first. Doydum gives estimates, not medical advice.
Learn moreIs Doydum available on Android?
Not at the moment. Doydum is built for iPhone, with features that rely on it, like Sign in with Apple, the iPhone’s motion sensor for steps and the home-screen widget. There’s no Android version yet, and we can’t promise a date. Meanwhile, the calculators and guides on this site work on any phone or computer.
Learn moreHow much does Doydum cost?
Doydum is a subscription app. Doydum Pro unlocks the whole app, with a monthly and a yearly plan. The App Store shows the price in your currency, and any trial if one is offered, before you pay. Payment goes through your Apple Account, and you can cancel anytime in your iPhone’s subscription settings, at least 24 hours before the period renews.
Learn moreWhen can I get Doydum?
Soon. Doydum is coming to the App Store for iPhone, and we’re doing the last checks before release. We’d rather not promise a date we might miss. Until then, try the calorie, macro and water calculators on this site, which use the same maths as the app, and come and meet Doy.
Learn moreHow do I contact support?
Email support@doydum.app in English or Turkish. Tell us what happened, on which screen, and your iPhone model and app version (Settings → App information). Please don’t send health details or meal photos; we never need them to help. We usually reply within a few working days, and the support page has quick fixes for common problems.
